Farm2Fuel Smart Micro-Biorefinery for Local Energy and Soil Sustainability
Services
Fabrication Facilities
We have in-house capabilities for mechanical fabrication, assembly, and integration of the biorefinery units, as demonstrated by the construction of the first prototype based on our detailed Specification Sheet and Bill of Materials.
Laboratory and Analytical Equipment
We operate an in-house laboratory equipped for process monitoring. This includes a portable gas chromatograph for verifying methane content
IT and Electronics Infrastructure
We possess the necessary hardware and software development environment for programming the AI micro-controller and managing the IoT data platform, which were developed in-house for the TRL 6 prototype.
About Us
Rural and coastal communities across Europe face the dual challenges of managing organic waste streams, such as seaweed and agricultural residues, and securing affordable, clean energy. The Farm2Fuel project addresses this gap by transforming this biomass from a waste management problem into a valuable resource for decentralized energy production and regenerative agriculture.
Funded under Strand B – Macroalgal Biotechnology and Downstream Applications of the I3-4-SEAWEED programme, the project’s primary objective is to advance a proven smart micro-biorefinery from a validated prototype (Technology Readiness Level 6) to a market-ready
pilot system (TRL 7-8). It aims to demonstrate how integrating macroalgal biotechnology with Artificial Intelligence (AI) can create a scalable, economically viable solution for local energy
self-sufficiency and improved soil health.
